Today, we explore the Dingle Peninsula which is noted for its scenic beauty, just like the Iveragh Peninsula that we drove yesterday. It will be a daytrip, which sees us returning to Killarney for another night tonight.
We left around 0800, after having a little bit of muesli beforehand. Driving along the north coast of the peninsula, we reached the little town of Dingle around 0945 and checked out options for breakfast. There were a few pubs but only one pricey café.
We settled for a glad-wrapped bacon and egg split English muffin sandwich each, at a convenience store. The tea there was too expensive so decided to wait till we found somewhere more reasonable.
Out of ignorance, we drove the last part of the peninsula in an anti-clockwise direction, contrary to advice we only learnt later.
Our tea stop at a café and gallery on Slea Head Drive was very scenic, looking out towards the sea and the land beyond.

Our anti-clockwise routing saw us being turned back near Dunmore Head, the western-most tip of the main island of Ireland. We took an alternate route to do the portion that we would otherwise miss, along the southern coast from Fionn Tra to Dunmore Head.
We stopped at a fairy fort and petting zoo on the way. A fairy fort is a ring of prehistoric dwelling or stone circles.
Once near Dunmore Head, we decided the weather wasn’t good enough to attempt any kind of walk.
We drove back along the south coast of the peninsula back to Killarney, but stopped at Inch Beach for a cuppa.

We finished back at The Gardens motel around 1445. I had driven about 2h today, fortunately in the easy parts. I hadn’t driven at all yesterday, so I was keen to justify the EUR11 per day fee for me as an extra driver.
Tonight, we treated ourselves to an excellent sit-down dinner at Sultan, an Indian and Middle Eastern eatery. We shared a chicken bhuna and a kebab, after largely eating from convenience stores in previous days.
