Shanghai Auto Museum

We headed out about 0900 and had some breakfast nearby before ordering a car to take us to the Shanghai Auto Museum about 45 mins away.

We got to the museum about 1030.  Exhibits in the museum are housed in three floors, with somewhat spiral ramp (also containing exhibits) joining each of those floors.

The collection had a mix of historic Chinese cars, iconic commercial cars (e.g.  Volkswagen Beetle, the first model of Toyota Corolla, Honda N600 being the first four-wheeler made by that manufacturer) and some famous supercars.

We spent about 1h10 in the museum.  Kim was reasonably impressed by the display and some of the supercars were immaculately restored.

We shared a McDonald’s combo meal before ordering a car back to our hotel area.  The Big Mac was the most carefully stacked specimen we had ever had, nearly resembling their advertising photos!

Back in the city

It was about 1300 when we got back to our hotel.  We thought we’d put on our washing in the laundry room then go grab some lunch.

To our big surprise, Level 2 of the hotel, including the laundry room was now stripped for renovation.  We were a day late!  Our laundry will have to wait till Kuala Lumpur at the laundromat.

We grabbed a set of the yummiest Shen Jian Bao (pan fried buns), a single one in a giant format (which wasn’t as nice) and a bowl of large-sized vegetable wontons.

After an afternoon rest, we headed out separately.  Kim had a foot massage while I had my last wander and grabbed a noodle soup.

Thoughts on leaving Shanghai

I can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with the weather.  It had been over 30 degC in the days before and will be again after our departure.

But during our stay in Shanghai, it had been the most pleasant weather for walking around in the low to mid 20s.

We settled into bed at 2015 with me taking a sleeping pill while Kim had a half.  We set the alarm for 0145 in order to get to Pudong airport for our 0600 flight in the morning.
