Pay-toilet on my flight

26 January 2008

I left Yemen for Dubai today with mixed emotions.  It was sad to leave Sanaa and Marie but happy to be on the way home.

I noticed on the flight that the “Push” sign on the toilet door was also written in Arabic as “Idfaa”.  That also means “Pay” (imperative or command form).  I like that … I should have should put a box on the door for the silly ones, then collect the loot at the end of the flight.

Push or pay?

Upon landing I went to the departures level to get my boarding pass for tomorrow’s flight to Hong Kong.  I then taxied to my accommodation at the Landmark Hotel. With a 1015 departure this morning and 1345 in arrival in Dubai, it wasn’t too late for a late lunch of shawarma and a mixed fruit cocktail juice.

I took dinner of chicken biryani at a place that I liked last time.  It was very pleasant to be in Dubai at a cool time of year.
