Disrupted travel plans

5 January 2008

Today I detected a schedule change in our Ethiopian Airlines flights.  We’re due to fly out to Addis Ababa tomorrow.  But the change affected our final flight from Addis back to Sana’a.  We would now be returning to Sana’a two days earlier on 25 Jan rather than 27 Jan.

I had been worried about being able to get from Hong Kong back to Auckland on standby in the lead up to Chinese New Year.  Ethiopian’s schedule change gave me a chance to bring forward my departure from Sana’a to Dubai from 31 Jan to to 26 Jan, getting to Hong Kong a day later.  This would enable me to try get back to Auckland before the Chinese New Year rush.

Incidentally I was originally booked to depart Sana’a on 26 Jan before shifting it to 31 Jan and now reverting to that original date!

That all worked quite well.  So I had to then change my overnight accommodation in Dubai.  Yes, likewise reverting to the original date of 26 Jan!

With all travel arrangements sorted, the realisation hit me that today would be my last full day in Yemen!  So much to do, see, experience and eat … but so little time!  So I squeezed in a prawn and beef fassa at Al-Shaibani restaurant, time on the rooftop to absorb Sana’s view and then dinner with tea at Ibrahim’s nearby.
