Long transit

11 December 2007

Today I start the second part of my adventure by flying to Hong Kong for a long transit, before continuing to Sana’a and later on in the month Ethiopia.  It was an 0600 wake-up in my apartment and my brother was kind enough to run me to the airport.

I was booked on the same-plane service to Hong Kong via Kota Kinabalu.  So the 30 min delay didn’t trouble me as I wouldn’t miss any tight connection.  To my surprise, the cabin crew on my flight operated only the domestic Kuching – Kota Kinabalu sector.  However, the crew on the second flight had a long day operating three sectors:  Kota Kinabalu – Hong Kong – Kota Kinabalu – Kuching.  And yesterday, it was four sectors:  Kota Kinabalu – Hong Kong – Kota Kinabalu – Miri – Kota Kinabalu!

I had a 9h+ transit in Hong Kong, giving me enough time to go downtown for a killer hard massage.  With the bus trip both ways, it killed about 4h.  Plus check-in time for my next flight, I still had a decent amount of time to relax in the lounge before my Emirates flight after midnight.
