My “grandfather” is sick

13 January 2008

It was another 0500 wake-up.  Actually, it was 0445.  While waiting for the bus to Mekele, we were offered a Cobra service.  We didn’t know what a Cobra was but took the offer only to be pleasantly surprised to see that it was a Landcruiser with only two other passengers.  We were on the road before 0600.  It took us swiftly to Mekele for a little more than double the bus fare.  But at speed and in comfort.

We arrived in Mekele around 1130 and checked into Hatsie Yohannes Hotel near Lucy Park.  In Mekele, there’s supposed to be a place where camels come in with salt block that have been harvested from the desert.  But we couldn’t find the place.  As the hotel was only available for one night, we decided we’d move tomorrow morning to the next town, rather than to another hotel here provided Marie was well enough.

She had started to feel unwell; somewhat feverish.  She’s always being mistaken for my mother, wife, sister etc … jokingly she said “Your grandfather is sick.”
