To the backpacker paradise

22 November 2007

I woke up early-ish at 0645 at Cheng Yang Bridge accommodation.  Today I’m bound for Yangshuo via Guilin.  I had to first wait by the road for a bus to Sanyang where I changed promptly for Guilin.  The road was terrible en route.

At Guilin it was another quick change for Yangshuo.  I arrived after 1400 hungry.  The Hotel Explorer was nice and central and my room had two balconies!

Yangshuo is like the backpacker’s capital of China.  Lots of businesses speak some English (a rarity in most of China).  It may also be the adventure capital … there is an climbing-abseiling shop opposite my hotel, lots of mountain bikes for rent.

But best of all, there were lots of yummy restaurants within walking distance.  It was the first time I’ve seen dog on the menu in English; normally I see it in Chinese only.
