It’s always better in Yemen

8 November 2008

Even though this is my fourth (arguably fifth) stay in Yemen, daily activities still put a smile on my face.  Like buying bread or sipping of cuppa tea.  Its just seems better in Yemen. Or sometimes just different:

  • People here seem cooperative rather than competitive … eg. restaurants will sometimes get you something from next door if you want; shopkeepers may borrow biscuits or whatever from the next shop too.
  • The mugshots at the police station have pictures of men, women and children … some of the women have their faced covered only to reveal their eyes!  Believe it or not, our local friends can distinguish women just from their eyes, shape and mannerisms.
  • I couldn’t help but take photos of the happy qat-chewing money changer tonight when Marie needed his services.  But unfortunately they were taken with my phone so the quality is poor.
