St Peter Port

We got David to drop us in St Peter Port this morning to have another wander.  We started at the La Vallette underground military museum, which covers the island’s military history during World War One and the German Occupation of the island from 1940 to 1945 during World War Two.

From here, we walked to the centre of town where we had lunch near the bus stop.  Kim had a full breakfast for GBP4 while I had a cheese toastie only, for GBP2.30.

We hopped on the bus doing its route around the island for GBP0.50.  The friendly driver seemed pleased to have visitors and gave us a running commentary.  The total trip took over an hour.

Back at St Peter Port we walked over to Castle Cornet.  This fortified castle sits on what was once an island which is now joined to Guernsey by a breakwater.  With an entry price of GBP6, we didn’t bother entering.

We bought some snacks to eat, had one final walk around town before continuing uphill back to the house through Candie Road.

For dinner, David got a generous order of Chinese takeaways.  Sis cooked some vegetables from their garden and some rice as well.

After dinner, Kim tried out David’s hobby which was Microsoft Flight Simulator.  Despite having real-life flying experience on light aircraft, Kim had no experience operating a pretend plane using keyboard and joystick.

It seemed like a boring game to me, especially if one chooses a long route with lots of silent sitting and waiting between take-off and landing.  In the end, with little instruction, Kim landed the night flight on the grass at Gatwick Airport.
