Jesuits & sightseeing

Jesuits

In school, I found out that one of my classmates is a Jesuit priest.  In fact, there were many others in the school coming from Indonesia, India and probably other places which would make them less distinguishable from other students.

My Jesuit classmate has multiple degrees, multiple masters, and has had careers in journalism, IT amongst other things!  His counterpart from Kenya has a masters degree in microbiology.  I find it hard to comprehend the calling that people have to join the priesthood.  I guess I’m not alone as numbers are falling drastically in many countries.

And with my classmate who has had a few study and career changes, what’s to say that the priesthood is a permanent move?  Then I saw that his phone lock screen had a picture of an astronaut planting a rainbow flag on the moon!  How is that consistent with the Catholic view?

Sightseeing and nightseeing

After my swim, I started my visit to the inside of Salamanca’s sights.  I took in the Cathedral and St Stephen’s Convent.  Having slept early every night so far, I hadn’t seen the city by night.  So I went out after the 2200 sunset for a delightful night walk.

Even at 2230 people were still dining on the streets but it quietened down after 2300.  I can certainly understand their timings to avoid the afternoon heat with a siesta.  But it isn’t working for me because I just need food earlier with my 1km daily swims.  If I hadn’t been exercising, maybe I would fit in better.
