Home sweet home

15 October 2026

The flight to Auckland departed a little earlier than the scheduled time of 0005.

Due to the only fare type available for the route on this particular date, we had been sold a Premium Economy ticket.  On Air China B787 it is basically Economy Class with lots extra legroom with regular meals.  We were however given a pre-departure juice or water and a hot towel.

There’s nothing fancy in terms of better meals but it is all reflected in the only slightly marked-up pricing.

The first half of a sleeping pill taken after dinner didn’t quite work.  After a while, I took a second half and managed to doze on and off for about 6h, with a clear break halfway in between.

We landed in Auckland about 15 mins earlier than the scheduled time of 1730.  With nothing to declare we were out within 30 mins after collecting our checked-in baggage.

We were picked up by Jas (Jo’s granddaughter) and her boyfriend Mason in his new BMW wagon.  With clever navigation, we got home quickly despite the rush hour traffic.

Auckland was drizzly, windy, cold and damp.  Can’t wait for the summer to set in.
