Visit to a Mausoleum

13 October 2026

It was another relaxing morning before heading out around 1115 by car to the Tomb of Yusup Khass Hajip.  M had decided to walk there as it was only 30 mins on foot.  I would have been happy to do that too.

Khass Hajip was an 11th Century Central Asan Turkic Poet.  The site was demolished during the Cultural Revolution but rebuilt, complete with blue glazed tiles.  It is one of two mausoleums in the area and we chose just to visit one.

From here, M guided us to a park where there were many locals dancing to Uyghur music.  The atmosphere was lovely and we stayed for a while before crossing the road to what seemed like a chain eatery that did noodles and traditional Chinese sandwiches.

Text continues after this gallery.

While making my order, M barged in, like yesterday trying to get me to place her order.  I have enough trouble making myself known in Mandarin without complications of handling someone else’s order in parallel.

We rested for the rest of the day before repeating last night’s dinner choice of cumin-flavoured fried bread and lamb, but accompanied it with a different choice of vegetables.

On our walk back to the homestay after dinner.
