To the historic capital

I felt a million dollars after a great night sleep; I’m normally a heavy sleeper but recent nights haven’t been like that perhaps due to altitude.

In my moment of weakness yesterday, I had arranged for a taxi to take us from Ollantay to Cusco rather than take public transport. We were picked up at 1030 and arrived around 1300 after getting caught in the old town traffic within Cusco.

Casa Hospedaje Munaycha, our chosen accommodation, a highly-rated budget place has a weird set-up which we anticipated. We walked through a school gate through the courtyard and classrooms, then another courtyard to get to the hotel’s front door. Like all schools during break time, it was a noisy and playful environment.

Once through the front door, it was a quiet oasis with rooms overlooking a lovely courtyard. We dropped our stuff and ventured out for a super-cheap set lunch of 7 soles.

Our location was handy for exploring old Cusco so we wandered without any particular intentions and orientated ourselves. It was a good way to set ourselves up for a more structured sightseeing at a later stage.

After some rest, we went out again to arrange some excursions and drop off our laundry. While I appear to have recovered, tummy-wise, I was still cautious and opted for another wonton soup. This time it was a “special” with prawns, beef, pork, quail egg in addition to the noodles, veges and unstuffed folded wonton skin (weird).
