Arriving in Lima but bags still in Miami

5 May 2016

We landed about 10 mins ahead of schedule at 2230 and immigration was swift. The airport billboard advertising was all targeted at mainland Chinese travellers! Later in my stay in Lima, I noticed that UnionPay was accepted in a number of places too.

Getting to the carousel at 2300 we waited for our bags. By 2330 we were told that all had been unloaded and we needed to do a claim. One Peruvian Chinese staff helped the many affected passengers; she worked attentively with those in the queue which meant that it took forever.

She called for backup and when they came, they stood around talking. Kim offered to go bring them around to help and she said “Yes, please … I know what my colleagues are like”. With an extra staff member, we were processed together with the last remaining passengers.

We left the departure hall at 0045 to find that our pre-booked taxi had gone, so we hopped in a regular Green Taxi to our hotel in Miraflores. At this time, the roads were deserted and it took us 25 mins to reach the Imperial Inn. We ended our long day with a quick shower and we were in bed at 0200.
