Where No One Can Hear You Scream

10 March 2014

It was a very bad start to the day. They door lock wouldn’t respond to the turn of the key this morning. I tried it deep and shallow but to no avail. I needed to pee. I had to do it into a couple of 500ml empty water bottles. I have to thank my yoga teacher for all those pelvic floor exercises as it would have been hard to switch bottles mid-stream otherwise.

I tried the door once more. My other bodily function was starting to need its morning attention and I didn’t like the thought of doing it into the rubbish bin. I screamed for help and banged on the ceiling (much of the walls are of mat material). No one heard me.

I tried the door again and having the key really shallow seemed to do the trick. After watering the garden with my two bottles of pee, I readied myself for breakfast.

This is the day that I did my two dives in the Red Sea. I took up diving six years ago after seeing the amazing life off the pontoon at Sharm El Sheikh some 10 years ago. So it is kinda like a full circle that I come back here to dive.

You can read the details of my dives here, but in summary the first dive was OK while the second quite good. My ideas for diving in some of the world class sites went out the window because those sites are further away and are uneconomic for a single traveller. The alternative is even less economic with a liveaboard on a week long trip.

So, sadly, the Red Sea dives didn’t live up to my high expectations.
