Slow Journey to KL

18 February 2014

I arrived into Singapore with a headache just after 1700. I had nearly 4 hours to kill before my connecting flight to KL.  Fortunately I had access to the SATS Premier Club (courtesy of a free old credit card). After some food, 30 minutes in a massage chair and being back at sea level, I felt much better.

When it was nearly time for me to walk to the aircraft, I checked the airport’s website to confirm the departure time and gate (as the lounge didn’t have a monitor that showed this). I was extremely annoyed to learn of a delay of 1h40 which would mean a departure of 2250 and an arrival close to midnight in KL.  There was nothing I could do apart from eat and drink some more, and have another 30 minutes on the massage chair.

It had turned out to be a 5h30 transit in Singapore for a very short hop to KL; the plane was descending some 10 minutes after the fasten seat belts came off.  To my surprise, I was given a sandwich, water and a kitkat because I was on a Business Class fare AKL-SIN-KUL even though the aircraft itself for the short hop was monoclass.

I went through customs without being inspected which was great, as I had a car part for Mum and a bottle of wine (within my entitlement, but saves on answering questions). I had to wait about 20 minutes before the 0030 train departed for KL Sentral, a journey of 28 minutes. The last train is at 0100 so I’m quite lucky I wasn’t much later.

I taxied to the hotel and climbed into bed at 0145 … that’s about 24 hours after I had woken up in Auckland. Considering how much travelling I do, it very rare for me to be badly affected by situations like this.
