Daytona Speedway

Short exploration

Our stay at Daytona’s Islander Resort included a continental breakfast of bagel, real juice and a few other items.

We had to arrange a timeshare presentation to attend.  We had been misled into thinking that we would be required to attend one presentation in Florida, but because we’re splitting our stay across three cities, we have been compelled to attend one per city!

Starting our exploration today, we drove south to the lighthouse then the pier and beach. Everything was very tacky, including the shops and the kind of souvenirs that were being sold.

Second timeshare presentation

We met up with our timeshare agent and had a simple buffet lunch at the Plaza Ocean Club.  He knew we were a lost cause when we told him we had already attended a presentation in Orlando.  He took us to his office and sales centre where we also spoke to the boss.

I think the agency that did our booking must operate somewhat independently from the timeshare sales.  What’s the point of booking people on a trip that has three timeshare sales presentations (apart from their booking commission)?  If one is unlikely to buy on the first, they’re not likely to buy on the second or third unless the deals or the property are vastly different.  And if one buys on the first, they’re not likely to buy at the second or third.

We were let off more easily today in over an hour, I think.

Daytona Speedway

Being such a car fanatic, Kim drove us to Daytona Speedway.  Kim went into the speedway for a visit while I shopped at Marshall’s.  He returned aftr two hours and we continued our shopping at Ross Dress for Less then TJ Maxx.  We love buying the end-of-run high-quality stuff for very little money.

We had dinner at Denny’s using a 20% discount voucher, making it really good value.  Despite seeming like not much of a day, we returned to the hotel really tired.
