Heading south

29 April 2004

We checked out after breakfast.  A voucher was required for payment to the Daytona Beach hotel but we hadn’t received it.  But the lady at reception said she would sort it out.

It was nearly 4h driving south to Fort Lauderdale.  We stopped for fuel and a Subway lunch in the city of Jupiter about two-thirds of the way down.

Our rental car booking had been two days short of what we had needed.  We had arranged a new rental from Payless because it was cheaper than getting our original car extended through the agency, or getting a new car from the same rental car company.  We did this at Fort Launderdale airport.  The timing was quite fortunate as Kim had an upset stomach which we can only attribute to last night’s dinner.

At Fort Lauderdale, our first stop was at the timeshare Welcome Centre.  We mentioned that we hadn’t expected to be doing a timeshare presentation in each city but only once.  The very nice lady mentioned that the agency we had booked through, Astar, always seem to not give the full attendance requirements to their customers.

Our assigned property was at Vacation Village.  We were given the guest sub-unit of a two-unit apartment.  It wasn’t as nice as the property in Celebration.  There were only smoking units left.  We were disappointed but the room was still nicer than an average New Zealand motel.

We had dinner at Pollo Tropical, a fast food place.  The chicken and steak were nice but the prawns couldn’t match that at Denny’s.

We finished back at our hotel where Kim had further problems with his tummy.  I’m thinking it’s not the food because we do share our meals, swapping halfway.
