Staycation

11 December 2021

Above:  Dry moment on a largely wet day in Kota Kinabalu.

I had my first good night sleep in three days.  Just as I was about to leave my room for a morning walk in Kota Kinabalu, it started pouring.  I returned to my room where I stayed till around 1000.

The plan had been to visit a friend David but his wife Joanne had caught Covid-19 despite being double-jabbed.  So, they’re both isolating.

I’m treating my time in Kota Kinabalu as a staycation.  Eating, chilling and walking around.  It was perfect being at hotel connected to Suria Sabah mall, especially when it was wet most of the day.

In my walks further away from the hotel I found Covid-19 RTK-Ag kits for only MYR5 each.  So I grabbed a few for use in the near future and also for a friend in New Zealand where they’re not on sale (due to the previous elimination strategy, they weren’t accurate enough at around 95%).

Due to the ongoing rain, I missed out on an evening walk on the waterfront where there is normally a tempting array of seafood for sale.  As a solo traveller, it’s more just to look at.

Cheapest RTK-Ag kits I’ve found so far, selling at MYR5 each (NZD1.75 or USD1.20).
