Playing host

2 November 2019

Today I pick up friend Michelle from New Zealand who will visit and stay till my departure.  She arrived yesterday morning and will leave five minutes before me next week. I had asked her to stay in town for the first night and given her some sightseeing tips to start off her stay before I could play host properly.

Combined with errands for family, I had a pretty busy week with her:

  • Semenggoh Orang Utan Sanctuary (twice)
  • Siniawan Night Market
  • Serikin Border Market
  • Sarawak Cultural Village
  • Dinners with friends and family, some of which were a little rushed and squeezed in.
  • Dragging her along on errands like Mum’s doctor visit, repairing her wheelchair, grocery shopping.
  • Iyengar yoga classes (twice).
  • Two Thai massages; they were the best I’ve ever had, better than all of those I’ve ever had in Thailnd.  We both like it strong, very strong.

We had a few meals with my Mum at home.  Michelle even tried Tempoyak (fermented durian) and liked it!  That was a surprise to everyone especially when she couldn’t stomach fresh durian because of its smell.
