From the big republic to the tiny one

22 May 2018

Today I fly from the big republic that is Indonesia to the smaller one, Singapore.  I started the day with a breakfast of muesli and milk with papaya, purchased from the supermarket yesterday.  I checked out around 0930 and used Grab to order a ride to the airport.  The driver got near the airport and took the back streets as he said it would be faster.

With about 2h30 till departure and workable wifi, I went on the computer to attend to some stuff.  The Jetstar flight to Singapore scheduled for 1205 left a little early.  We flew past the Riau Islands off Singapore before turning back over Johor to land at Changi slightly ahead of schedule as well.

Disembarking, the passengers on our flight and our hand luggage were subject to security check before being allowed to go through immigration and customs.  It’s happened before for arrivals into Singapore and I wonder what their criteria is … and why hand luggage only.

Exiting into the public area, it looked a little different.  I needed some food and the regular outlets outside the arrival hall were gone.  The taxi stand had been moved to a new basement level.  I settled for the only eatery (a takeaway) in the area and chose a cheong-fun and soon-kueh combo for SGD3.  It was largely all carbo with sauce but yummy.

The changes to the area will link into the Jewel mall that will open in full in the near future.  I taxied to my aunt’s for a two night stay sans air-con.  My cousin and her son are visiting from Scotland and it would be nice to see them too after five years.
