Moving on to the beach

15 July 2015

We had a leisurely morning before checking out around 1130 and walking to the bus terminal. It was a breeze taking the bus to Batu Ferringhi for our one night at the Holiday Inn Resort. On the bus I chatted to this woman who had an El Nido bag. As it turns out, she (and her husband) was from New Zealand too and we had plenty in common (eg. escaping winter, travelling and flying budget class).

Our hotel room was very nice. We didn’t stay in long but wandered out for a tandoor lunch at a nearby shop/shack, then returned for a rest.

Exploring the resort later, the resort was old but well kept and had a nice but characterless pool. The air and pool temperature was perfect. I spent my afternoon alternating between the pool and the lounger.

Sadly the sea wasn’t blue and tempting but the beach had nice white sand. There was little control over jetskis and they can easily kill anyone (if there had been anyone) swimming in the water. Likewise with the speedboat that was taking the parasailers out.

We had dinner at a hawker centre called “I Love You” just next to another one at “Long Beach”. There was plenty of hawker style food but we opted for more home-cooked options plus fresh juice sans added sugar. My usual papaya and mango for Kim.

It was a pleasant walk on the beach back to our hotel, making a perfect end to our only day by the sea in Penang.
