Blue Mountains

5 July 2015

I had a bad night sleep feeling a little sweaty. The body wash I had used earlier (not my own), had over-moisturised me and I was very uncomfortable in bed with thick bedding.

I went out to get some fruit and milk and made a breakfast with muesli. An old friend Gabriel invited us to join his outing taking his cousin Alice and her daughter Lydia to the Blue Mountains. They were visiting from Honiara.

It was about 90 minutes drive to Leura where we went to the lookout. From there we went to Katoomba village where we had a great lunch in an old pub. The beef and Guinness pie was just perfect with the hint of bitterness. The potato wedges which Gabriel ordered for us to share was tasty and crunchy on the outside.

After lunch, we explored the old Carrington Hotel nearby afterwards, admiring the ornate interior. Moving on, we dropped Alice and Lydia at Scenic World cable cars. The queue for tickets was out the door. Kim “somehow” managed to get them to the front. We chatted with Gabriel while the two ladies went on their scenic ride of the mountains.

Traffic was bad on the way back to Sydney due to partial road closure due to roadworks, even though the actual work had stopped for the night (or weekend).

We met up with another school-mate Clement at Narwee pub for a drink before being dropped back in the city. We were still bloated from our heavy lunch. We decided it might be wise to have a light dinner regardless. I took Kim to the nearby Chinese where we had some dumplings, noodles and pan-fried buns. Strangely, despite not being exactly “light” food, it settled our tummies and we felt less bloated after eating all that!
