Wrapping up Lahore

23 June 2012

My plan was to have tonight in Lahore. As we had done nearly all we had wanted (and due to the heat) we decided to move on to Murree. The bus leaves at 4pm so we had time to fit in the Shalimar Gardens which is brought to you by the people that brought the Taj Mahal. It was built in the 17th Century.

Back at the hostel, we christened the new air-con; the installation was completed half an hour before we checked out! We said good bye to our wonderful host Sajjad and the other western guests … some of whom need lessons in using a bathroom. FYI:

  • The bucket under the shower holds clean water for those who prefer a bucket-and-scoop to a shower.
  • And if you’re using the shower, you make sure you don’t get your dirty water into the bucket. Move the bucket if necessary!
  • The bucket also allows you to drain off hot water from the roof tank (to keep for later) so you can have a cool shower with new water that’s been brought up from the ground.
  • The bucket also serves as a backup source in case the the shower runs out.

Random thought: We have gotten used to locals coming up to have their photos taken with us.  Most are polite and friendly but you get the odd person (sometimes due to language difficulties) who do it in a creepy fashion (I’m sure some local say the same of us). Often they ask us to take a photo of them before a role reversal.
