The Boeing factory

Pike Place Market

Jet lag was on our side today and we were up before the crack of dawn.

First stop was the Pike Place Market … home to Seattle’s fish market.  Wow!  The ginormous scallops, lobsters and prawns were tempting even though we weren’t hungry … but we weren’t tempted enough to actually eat though.

Museum of Flight

The plan was for us to visit the Boeing factory in the afternoon.  But Kim knew of another Boeing site so we stopped for a visit to their Museum of Flight south of Seattle.

Boeing’s Everett Factory

The factory itself north of Seattle at Everett was a world full of superlatives but no photos are permitted.  It was the world’s largest single building; so big that it can hold all of Disneyland and still have room for it to rattle.

First we saw the production line for the former Queen of the Skies, the Boeing 747.  Then the production lines for the 777 and then the 787 which will enter commercial service in a few months with All Nippon Airlines.  The 787 Dreamliner programme is running a little late, having encountered some issues.  There were many such planes parked up pending resolution of the problems before they can be delivered.

The tour itself is more organised and polished than the Airbus one at Toulouse which was a small friendly affair.
