Flying to Singapore

24 May 2003

We woke at 0500 and were in the courtesy shuttle at 0600 for the short ride to Dubai airport. Check-in was swift and we used up our remaining dirhams before boarding the Emirates B777-300. We departed about 30 mins late due to having to offload the bags for people who were turned away at the last minute due to improper documentation.

The crew were smilier than we had encountered before and were very quick with the meal service after take-off. This was aided by the flight being quite empty and we had seven seats between the both of us. All these little things kinda turned round my opinion of Emirates … which just goes to show that the most important thing on a long flight is just S-P-A-C-E!

The aircraft was very noisy and it was worse for us seated at the back. We chatted to one of the crew members from New Zealand who used to fly for Ansett New Zealand and Freedom Air.

Upon arrival at Singapore, I missed Mum who had been waiting outside the baggage claim area. She had step-dad were kind enough to come pick us up.

Back at their place, we were treated to a nice dinner of potato, ham and bacon quiche accompanied by a side salad and jelly for dessert. Ham and bacon is particularly welcome after having been in the Middle East for three weeks!
