Sun, sand, sea, pool and waterpark

20 May 2003

We ate a simple breakfast of cereal, mango juice and some cake in our room. Our hotel is in the same group as the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and we used their free shuttle to get there.

The water in the sea by the hotel was just stunning. It was a gorgeous turquoise to look at and once in it, it is crystal clear and I could see my toe even when standing neck-deep. And of course we had the view of the Burj al Arab and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, both of which were stunning architecturally.

We utilised the Jumeirah Beach Hotel pool there before proceeding to the Wild Wadi waterpark when it opened at 1100.

The entrance to the park was AED99 pp. For two people, it was the same as our hotel room rate. We did a few rides including one where we were seated in a life raft that got pushed uphill, the slid downhill.

We ate back at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The food was good and it was prawns galore! The lobby, while small, had an atrium that stretched all the way up.

On the shuttle bus back, Kim felt unwell. He felt a diarrhoea coming on. Fortunately he managed to hold on till we got back to our hotel. He really didn’t think he could make it. Because it was only a one-off incident and I was completely fine, I put it down to one of the rides he did at Wild Wadi. Specifically the water slide where I think he “ingested” water up his rear end unknowingly.

Back at the hotel, we got a message from Kim’s friend Donna. She had to cancel tonight’s dinner and postpone it by two days to Thursday.

Left to our own devices, we took the hotel shuttle to Bur Juman but due to really bad traffic, they dropped us off at Deira City Centre instead.
