Family time

Today Kim and I parted company.  He went home to Auckland while I flew Tiger Airways, instead of AirAsia for a change, to my hometown Kuching for some family time. With a departure time at 1445, the short flight (including check-in, transport at either end), took up more or less the whole day.

Nightstop with aunt

We overnighted at my aunt’s place in Singapore. I hadn’t seen them for many years. But the delay to our scheduled 1800 arrival meant that my elderly Uncle was already asleep when we arrived.  He wakes early, so we should be able to chat to him in the morning before we head out to the […]

Cheap getaway

We flew to Singapore on Jetstar today on their NZ$99 fare (inclusive of all taxes, but excluding baggage and meals). What a cheap getaway.  A steal! They got off to a bad start when the 1125 flight was delayed by an hour … then a further half hour with very poor updates being given in […]

Last stop

Today I fly from Penang at 1455 to Hong Kong for an overnight, before picking up my flight back to Auckland on an Air New Zealand staff ticket (hence the circuitous routing). It’s also one of the rare instances AirAsia gets my money … while I normally buy free or nearly-free tickets for my travels, […]

Leaving home

It was a late night departure at 2355 to Hong Kong.  This allowed me to fit in a full day at work … giving me a few extra drops of income before I (once again) head off into joblessness. Kim had managed to swap on to my flight as crew, meaning that we could have […]

Chores and errands

Crossing the International Dateline, we landed in Auckland on Tuesday at 0850.  We had the day to do chores and errands for the remainder of the day in Auckland; that was the reason for coming back early.  We are grateful for the time we had in Rarotonga and Aitutaki, and didn’t feel short-changed for coming […]
