Chores and errands

Crossing the International Dateline, we landed in Auckland on Tuesday at 0850.  We had the day to do chores and errands for the remainder of the day in Auckland; that was the reason for coming back early.  We are grateful for the time we had in Rarotonga and Aitutaki, and didn’t feel short-changed for coming […]

Change of plan

We had planned on getting the evening flight home.  But there were things that needed sorting out at home so we changed our flights to an early one, very early in fact at 0615.  We got on the flight fine on standby.

Booking my next trip

We departed from Auckland at 0900 bound for Rarotonga.  But it was an early set-off from the house at 0630 to avoid the Auckland traffic. But before that, I had to spend about 15 minutes on the computer as AirAsia had a sale for their new flights from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul … so I […]

What makes a bird noisy or quiet?

From Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, I managed to get 3 seats because some passengers moved.  So each seat cost me about NZD10 only!  For 8 hours!! I’ve always noticed that the Airbus A330 (which operated the flight) is eerily quiet, especially if you sit near the engine (ironical).   Many a time I have hopped off […]

Nightstop

I left a family dinner a little early to catch my flight to KL departing at 2150.  I was very fortunate to have been able to see my brother-in-law visiting from the UK. Walking through the tarmac at KL Airport (LCC or Budget Terminal) at midnight offered a different insight as nearly all AirAsia’s red […]

Time with family

It was an early start at 0430 to catch the 0815 flight to Kuala Lumpur. Landing there at 1415, I had a 4h25 self-connect, at my own risk, to hometown Kuching where I landed at 2025. My favourite airline does not offer connections (to minimise liability and to keep fares low). One has to allow […]

How to leave and not feel like it’s happening

Above:  Flying to Melbourne with Emirates. Today I departed on a 5 week journey but it didn’t feel like I was going anywhere.  There was no real sense of excitement as the first leg was only to Melbourne, flying Emirates Airlines departing at 1745. Melbourne is somewhere which is not too different from New Zealand […]

Home

We arrived back in Auckland early in the morning.  It had been an awesome trip combining great landscape, too much food and good entertainment.  I enjoyed myself tremendously even though it was a lifestyle that I wasn’t accustomed to.  Having said that, I’d take adventure over this any day … my next trip will be […]

Leaving home with baited breath

We turned up at Auckland airport to check-in armed with a contingency plan in case the flight at 2000 to Vancouver was full.  Fortunately there were seats available and we were issued with boarding passes available.  We weren’t seated together because the remaining seats on the flight were spread through the aircraft.  No complaints!

Arriving home to a bumper harvest

Above:  This is one month’s harvest from Nyoman. We landed back in Auckland early in the morning.  We returned to the house to find a bumper harvest from our cat Nyoman.  Marie (my friend, schoolmate and travel companion … turned catsitter and housesitter) had been harvesting the hair from the cat each time she was […]
