To my hometown

Today we fly from Penang to Kuching, my hometown.  We felt obliged to have one more round of the awesome laksa before we depart.  We took breakfast at 1000 before checking-out after 1100.

Ordering a vehicle online, we ended up having the same car and driver as yesterday.  He’s also a taxi and waits at a nearby rank for walk-up customers while also monitoring for online orders.

We reached Penang airport around midday for my 1355 flight on Firefly.  Unfortunately, Boo had to take an indirect flight connecting at Kuala Lumpur because it was too difficult to organise with Malaysia Airlines’ call centre.  The line kept disconnected each time I was put on hold while they seek approval for an involuntary reroute to a non-stop flight operated by their subsidiary Firefly.

My flight was empty in the rear half.  It was a long noisy climb.  Seated in the same location as the flight four days ago, the A320neo (or any A320) was so much quieter than the B737-800.

The fasten seatbelt sign was on for most of the flight due to minor turbulence.  My fare, booked through Malaysia Airlines included a meal.  When I looked out of the window after my light feed, I saw Pulau Tioman where I had been a few days ago.

We landed in Kuching about 20 mins ahead of schedule at 1545.  I found a car to my apartment and was highly motivated with cleaning and mopping up the dust after about half-year’s absence.

In the evening, I went out to a gathering of friends.  One was in town from KL and another from Lake Tahoe.  I had to catch them before they depart again.  It was an awesome evening of chats, laughs, wine, coffee, cake, fruit, nuts etc.  We all left at midnight.  Fortunately, I have had lots of sleep-ins in recent days.
