Short jungle hike

14 June 2022

Having retired around 2100 last night I woke at 0340 but after more than an hour, fell asleep till 0800.  That’s a lot of sleep for me.

After breakfast I attended to an unexpected medical concern regarding blood where it’s not normally seen.  Having had my concerns allayed, I chilled and then had a long swim in front of Idaman Resort where the water appeared to be the best.  It was around high tide and the sea was just perfect.  With some cloud, I easily stayed for about an hour before returning to wash up.

I had no luck with the burger stall again (and same next day, meaning I never got to try the highly-rated burger).

Around 1445, Shah led me, a couple of other guests and his colleague Andrew on a walk to Paya Beach.  The walk took a little less than an hour, of which about 20 mins was through the jungle.  Again, I was pleased that my huffing and puffing episode through the Korean subway steps was behind me.

Paya Beach has an unbelievable number of dive centres.  It’s certainly more commercial with a couple of big low-rise resorts.  It is much busier and I like the laid-back atmosphere of Genting.  We spent a couple of hours there enjoying a cold “ABC” drink, exploring a couple of the resorts and going into the jungle briefly (behind people doing ATV rides).

We were around 1845.  I was disgustingly drenched and had a shower, rinsing my shirt and undies out at the same time.  I had hoped to dine at Pok Cik’s again but he had a late start tonight.  I had a disappointing meal at the Chinese seafood place operated by a man from Sibu.  The chicken curry with brinjal and ladies fingers was delicious with its flavour but the chicken was bony and miserly.

The next day, was pretty similar, spent chilling and swimming.  It was a welcome change of pace after Korea.
