Visa and voting

14 September 2005

I had only one important task to do today. That was to go to the New Zealand High Commission at Ngee Ann City to transfer my returning resident’s visa from my old passport to my new one. I was also able to vote for the New Zealand election by doing a special vote.

With that out of the way I ate an expensive Nasi Padang at Lucky Plaza. Step-dad had asked me to drop some stuff over to his place. I travelled by bus. The ride was a little more interesting today as I encountered a fare inspector. He checked people’s EZ-Link card or paper ticket to make sure they had paid for their fare. I noticed that while checking my paper ticket, he actually checked that it had been issued on this particular bus. He politely told off someone without a ticket (or had thrown it away). To my surprise, it was only a warning but no fine.

Having hopped off the bus too early, it was a hot and sweaty walk to the house. I was very ready for a shower and air-conditioned rest before catching a taxi to my aunt’s place.

Aunt brought me to the Singapore Swimming Club for a swim in their Olympic-sized pool. I did a couple of laps and then a few more interrupted laps. I’m not much of a swimmer.  We stayed on for dinner at the Club. The food here is excellent and very reasonably priced. We shared a few delicious dishes and for a treat, I had a very cendol dessert with very rich coconut milk.

With an early start tomorrow, I retired around 2130.
