Outing to Cambridge

6 June 2004

With the somewhat diametrically opposite time-zone from New Zealand, I woke at 0400, as I did yesterday.  Fortunately, I was able to sleep again till 0800 unaided, whereas yesterday I needed half a sleeping pill.

We lazed at Wendy’s place till around 1100 before driving to my sister’s place in Downham Market for lunch.

Mike took us out on a family outing to Cambridge.  He took his car while we followed.  We parked on the edge of town in the Park & Ride facility before heading into the heart of Cambridge for punting in the river.

Kim is normally good at anything physical, so it was a surprise that punting wasn’t completely easy for him.  I assisted by steering with a paddle.  We bumped from bank to bank a few times and he got into a foul mood briefly.

We couldn’t have picked a better day with temperature in the high 20s degC.  We finished with dinner at a pub by Denver Sluice just outside Downham Market.

It was still light after 2100 and with daylight around 0400 in the morning, there weren’t many hours of complete darkness at this time of year.
