Reboarding at Los Angeles

4 June 2004

I didn’t sleep a wink on the flight to Los Angeles.  Before landing at 1440, the crew on board, knowing that we have a tight standby-connection onwards to London, shifted us to the front of economy class so we could disembark quickly.

We cleared arrival formalities including the relatively new fingerprinting and photographing requirements fairly quickly.  At check-in upstairs, our bags were tagged as standby but shortly after, the staff came to us and removed the standby tags and told us we were on!  She came back with the boarding passes soon after.

It was a big relief that we would get to London, even though it would be in Economy Class again.  We were pleased when we reboarded and the aircraft doors closed up for our 1640 departure.  In rare instances, standby passengers can get off-loaded from the aircraft at the last minute.
