Day-to-day in a different environment

20 July 2025

Today is about enjoying the atmosphere (which I already was), seeing life in a different country, living my day-to-day in a different environment and escaping the New Zealand winter.

I spent the morning at the gym then ate a sandwich seated in the pedestrian mall which I had missed yesterday.

After a rest in the room and checking my standby flights, I headed out in the late afternoon when it was cool enough.

I had found that there’s a nearby lake called Valea Morilor and the Cascade Stairs that led to it.  It was a nice area for locals to hang out and for some to swim.  It is yet another place that made Chisinau very pleasant.

This city of about 700000 is one of the most pleasant small cities I’ve ever been to, without being ostentatious.  Much of it comes down to the lovely parks that make up the heart of the city, and the atmosphere of people young and old, out in full force to enjoy the gorgeous summer evenings.

It’s a place that wasn’t meant to be anything special but I enjoyed my stay tremendously with just the atmosphere and doing less.

It also marks the end of my trip as I fly to Kuala Lumpur (somehow, on standby) tomorrow, hopefully, for a stay in my hometown then head back to New Zealand.

I retired early after a simple meal from the supermarket, in preparation for the early start in the morning for a big day of travel uncertainty.
