Yesterday
Yesterday turned out to be a spare day, having done everything a little bit ahead of plan. Just as well, as the weather was drizzly and my short excursion to the old town was a little damp.
The highlight of the day was probably my final gym workout and doing my laundry at the laundromat 2 mins walk away.
Moving to Rennes
Today I have to leave the apartment at 1100 before taking the midday train to Rennes. After getting some pastries cheaply at Lidl for breakfast (less than buying a bottle of milk for my cereal), I got ready very slowly, doing all the things that were required by the owner before I departed (eg. dishes, linen, rubbish).
The train ride was less than 45 min. Getting to Rennes at 1245, I killed some time at the station before heading to the Le Florin hotel around 1400, in the hope of getting a room straight away as their official check-in time is 1500.
Burnt out
The whole St Malo and Rennes part of the trip was a backup in case I wasn’t able to visit a friend in Normandy. So, there’s a bit spare time as I hadn’t had too much planned for Rennes. It serves as a backup base for excursions in case I had bad weather while in St Malo, but I had done everything that I had wanted.
Once checked in, I felt a bit burnt out and didn’t want to leave the room at all. Must be the accumulation of doing things every day, pretty full-on plus the three consecutive days of gym. I have lots of admin to catch up on, but I do have tomorrow largely free as well.
I grabbed dinner from the supermarket later in the afternoon and managed to drag myself out for an evening walk.
Local lingo
Here in Rennes and St Malo (part of the Breton area), as with the Bordeaux area, I sometimes see signage in local languages that isn’t French. In the case of Brittany, it happens to be Breton, a Celtic language related to Welsh and Cornish. Down in Bordeaux, it is Occitan.
