Langkawi, take three

4 December 2023

Leaving Penang

Penang was the perfect recovery for me from the hectic days in Japan.  As an introvert, I also needed some “me time” to attend to online and around-town chores.  One day, however, didn’t seem enough to recharge.

Today I move on to Langkawi where I will try do chill some more.  I checked-out at 1030 and departed for the airport.  Domestic flight formalities were really easy with no queue and I went to the lounge for some lunch before the 1400 AirAsia flight to nearby Langkawi.

Settling into Cenang Beach

Even though the scheduled time was 40 min, we were only airborne for 19 min.  I ordered a ride to the Best Star Hotel at Cenang Beach, arriving there around 1500.

Accommodation in Langkawi seems either pricey or horrible.  Mine was in the rare middle ground.  I would call it a simple beachside 2-star hotel with a pool.

While I’ve visited Cenang before, it is my first time staying.  It certainly has a different feel from the rest of the island, and the feel changes through the day and night.

This is my third visit to Langkawi but the island is big enough to have a different experience each time by choosing to stay in a different part of the island.

I had a late afternoon swim in the pool and then the sea. Cenang Beach has white soft sand and the water is safe and shallow for families.

Cenang is a rather “happening” place for Langkawi, especially after sunset, but it’s all relative though.  It is very laid-back and tame compared to neighbouring Thailand.

I found a cheap eatery that was super popular with backpackers and locals.  Just as I had decided to return for another meal tomorrow, I realised it was their day off.
