I took breakfast in my room again while the others went out. Today we moved on for an overnight at Fenghuang Ancient Town which involved a taxi ride to the Zhangjiajie West station once again before boarding the 1040 train to Fenghuang.
We arrived 59 mins later and took two separate cars to the Perfect Memory Riverview Homestay.
I had booked a riverview room which was on the top floor which came with a squat toilet. I didn’t mind that for one night. E & BW had booked the same category, also with the view but I was happy to let them have the room with the sitting toilet.
On the other hand, KL & M had booked a balcony room immediately below. The view was obscured by the neighbouring building. We had a delicious meal nearby before resting during the hottest part of the day.
Exploring Fenghuang
About 1600, I went out with E & BW to wander around the ancient city of Fenghuang.
We headed towards the hills on the west where we could see the maglev line and station. The station is connected to part of the ancient city by escalators and an elevator. Since the route is a short distance one from the bullet train station, it is seems strange that magnetic levitation had been employed for a low speed application.
We walked around rather extensively amongst the crowd till darkness set in, then met with KL & M for a light dinner. We finished with some snacks and beer on my balcony overlooking the lights of Fenghuang.
